Introduction
Rightio so you have this game called ROL, what can it do?
Essentially at the moment, we are testing the simple deathmatch game
and the connectivity. So you will be shooting things, hopefully ALOT
of things.
You can either add bots (be aware they are not complete and
sometimes retarded) or you can join a server and shoot other people.
As soon as you start a singleplayer game you open up the game for
other people to join, all they need to do is have the same release
as you and type connect ***IP ADDRESS*** and they will join your
game.
so for example
/connect 127.0.0.1
If you don't know what your IP Address is you can use
whatismyipaddress.com or which ever website you prefer.
One word of caution don't fall into the trap of typing an IP Address
like
192.168.0.1 <- 192. IP Addresses are local lan addresses people on
the web won't be able to reach this address.
Also if you are behind a router or a firewall, open the ports below.
Quake III 27960
I can't go through router configs there are just too many, if you
have trouble google is your friend.
Playing
So you have joined a server, what next? Well the ctrl button your
left mouse button is your friend! Use it to blast away at any
gibbons you see walking around a level. In deathmatch ROL nobody is
your friend!
Infact if you want to annoy, taunt or abuse a person who you have
just eviscerated press T and type away to your hearts content
Located in the autobot city map are 4 powers, try and use them to
your benefit, they are;
Speed
Weapon Booster
Vector Sigma (Armour Boost)
And a secret one
Whilst playing Deathmatch you have the same Quake 3 basic controls
in terms of round length and kill numbers. So it is rush and charge
for the finish line!
If you want information on the attack types, check the other post in
this forum and if you are really keen check out the rol_weapons.txt
in the rol directory!
Character Bonuses and Balancing
Each character as its own unique features, for now we are still
working on balances and ways to improve each characters personality.
For gameplay help you need to be aware of some basics.
Every character can use the boost monitor! Check your controls, I
usually set mine to "Q". This is toggable and if used right can get
you out of some nasty situations. You will have a white aura when
you use this.
Some characters can fly, again make sure you bind this key in the
settings. Mine is usually set to F. Characters that can fly usually
are faster but weaker in terms of health and fire power.
The lock on function, is still a work in process but it is really
useful for tracking players, especially since they can move so damn
fast! We will see a bigger use for this in future releases with
melee
Block, does what it says on the tin. Reduces some damage taken
There are many many other tactics, try to figure them out by
yourself and don't be affraid to post them in this thread!
Just watch your health and energy at all times ;-) |
