Brief Character History:

Megatron is the most powerful and deadliest of all the Decepticons. He was the first Transformer created by Vector Sigma with the ability to fly and also the first Transformer created with the new technology designed by Vector Sigma. Megatron choose to use this power for his own gain and turned the Decepticons against the Autobots in his lust for power and Energon.

He recruited Soundwave and Megatron and soon many other Decepticons followed, even Decepticons who didn't want part of the war soon were made to become part of Megatron’s army. The Constructions were brain-washed into joining Megatron and destroyed the Crystal-City they were originally protecting with Autobot Omega Supreme simply because Megatron commanded it.

However Megatron made a huge mistake one day by almost killing an Autobot named Orion Pax who would later be reformatted by Alpha-Trion into the legendary Autobot Leader Optimus Prime.

Megatron and Optimus fought each other for many years until Prime and a small group of Autobots left Cybertron on the space shuttle -ARK- but the Decepticons followed them in the -NEMESIS- but an accident occurred and the ARK crashed on the Planet Earth were the Transformers lay in stasis-lock for over 4 Million years. The Volcano that the ARK crashed into awakens and with it awakens the Transformers and the wars continue.

Extra Details:

Originally Megatron was released way before the Transformers series came about. He was originally released by Takara as 'UNCLE-P38' which was Megatron in a different box with slightly different paint applications. Later when the Transformers came about he was repainted silver and released and recast as the leader of the Decepticons.

Megatron has been around for along time and has been re-done and re-invented several times now from the original design all the way up to the current Masterpiece Megatron release. Megatron’s other main modes appear to be either Tanks, Dragons or Dinosaurs. There have been many different modes for Megatron but hardly any GUN modes aside from the recent Hasbro release of Classics 'GUN' Megatron which had to have an orange tip on the end of the barrel and also the recent TomyTakara release of Masterpiece Megatron which appears to be having a lot of issues with its current release as some places say that he is just to realistic in gun mode such as Australia for example.

Universe History:

The history of Megatron has been long and full of many twists and turns. Originally the Vector Sigma computer on Cybertron brings life into Megatron and not long after that the wars begin. Megatron battles Prime until one day they pretty much destroy each other upon which Megatron is transformed by Unicron into Galvatron. Galvatron himself is eventually destroyed by the Autobot Headmasters on Earth near the polar region. Galvatron is then resurrected once again but this time as Super Megatron and battles Star Convoy (resurrected Optimus Prime) until finally Super Megatron is destroyed not to long after linking to form Dark Nova against Star Convoy.

Hundreds of years later when the Autobots and Decepticons have come to a truce and are now known as Predacons and Maximals there is a Predacon who named himself Megatron after the original Megatron. That Megatron then steals Trans-warp technology and goes back in time to try and find the Ark that the original Transformers were laying in status inside. The plan was simple, find the original Autobots in stasis inside the Ark, and destroy Optimus Prime thus changing history for the better for the Decepticons. However Predacon Megatron was followed by Maximal Optimus Primal and his crew who were able to stop Megatron’s plans from completion.

Beast Machines saw Megatron being brought back to Cybertron to face Trial at the Maximal and Predacon council members however an accident occurred and somehow Megatron arrived back on Cybertron before the Maximals. The story gets slightly complicated from here as during Beast Machines Megatron says that when he arrived on Cybertron he found the Planet had suffered an attack and that the people were weak and open to attack and that’s how he was able to take complete control so quickly of Cybertron. This could be linked to the end of Beast Wars Neo were Unicron (who had possessed Beast Wars 2 Galvatron) had attacked Cybertron and both Maximals and Predacons worked together to destroy Unicron once and for all. However at the end you see Cybertron is in rather a state as both sides try to repair and rebuild there home world.

Beast Machines Megatron is trying to pure himself of his Beast-Mode and become complete cybernetic as he finds the fact that Primal and the rest of his crew have taken organic forms revolting and not the way the Transformers as a race are supposed to be. The original Megatron also felt this way as he always said how he hated flesh creatures and Super Megatron even ate a few Eskimos upon his resurrection.

In the comics of Generation One the history of Megatron tends to go a little crazy at times. During one plot we saw Cyclonus, Scourge and Galvatron warped 20 years into the past and several other Transformers warped into different times during 'The Time Wars' and we see Megatron kill Cyclonus 20 years before he is even created by ripping off his head. Another comic plot shows us Megatron being reformatted by Cobra Command of the Action Force series as an army Tank while in another comic plot Megatron is rebuilt yet again as another Tank model -Arche Force-.

RID shows us Predacon Megatron (Different Universe, Not connected with G1) on Earth searching for Energy. Megatron battles Autobot leader Optimus Prime (Fire Convoy) while on Earth and even went as far as creating a Clone of Optimus. Megatron merged his Spark with Optimus Primes mainframe and used a Protoform as the mould creating Decepticon leader Scourge, a Transformer with the look and power of Optimus Prime but the lust for power and destruction of that of Megatron. To much power eventually leads Megatron to transformation into Galvatron (a white version of Megatron) and the only thing that can stand up to his new power is the combined form of Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime AKA - Omega Prime - and with the help of Fortress Maximus to grant them the Master Sword/Matrix Blade (God Fire Convoy Sword) that only then is Galvatron defeated.

Armada is a different series and Universe but the basic plot stays the same, Megatron and Prime battle each other on Earth except that this time it's over the power of the Mini-Cons who are actually creations of the Chaos Bringer Unicron. Prime and Megatron battle and eventually Megatron becomes Galvatron (basically a purple/white repaint) and Optimus becomes Power Linked. The Decepticons and Autobots form an alliance to defeat Unicron but it is only when Prime and Megatron stop fighting that Unicron is stopped. However the two have one final battle and Megatron gives up and leaves Optimus to take care of things as best he can.

Energon continues years later after the events of Armada and we see Megatron resurrected and reborn in the empty shell of Unicron. Now back and alive and more powerful than before Megatron returns to lead the Decepticons and the war begins again. Megatron plans to take control of Unicron and use his power for himself. Nothing is as easy as Megatron plans it to however since Optimus and the Autobots are at constant war with each other, the arrival of the Quintessons and Terrorcons also adds heat of things.

Cybertron is yet a new cartoon series and yet set in another completely new universe, well at least in the Japanese version 'Galaxy Force' it is as its actually a mistake in Cybertron as it was not meant to be linked to Armada-Energon. This time it’s all about Planet Keys and the secret that the Planet Cybertron holds. Megatron wants complete and total control of Cybertron and has many Decepticons on his side to aid his goal.

As per usual Megatron gets transformed into the more powerful Galvatron near the end of the series only to be destroyed at the very end.

Toy History:
