With Transformers Armada comes a figure that fans have been waiting to own since the very first time they saw him in - Transformers The Movie - finally Unicron has arrived! he may not be 100% identical to the original Chaos Bringer but he is still Unicron and still a threat to Cybertron and the rest of the Universe.

First thing to remember is that this is NOT 'Generation One' Unicron but ARMADA Unicron. The figure still looks like the original Chaos Bringer but he has a few alight modifications such as his 'Wings' attaching to his back instead of the shoulders like the original Unicron had. Another change is that this Unicron has no collar piece around his neck like the original and he also has two small sections of the Planet attached to his legs and his back.

Robot mode is pure 'Sex on a Stick' as its completely fantastic. Firstly the figure is huge which is perfect since Unicron is a destroyer of worlds and also shows that Hasbro and Takara really cared when making this figure the size that he is because if he were smaller then its doubtful he would and could have sold so well.

The figures arms bend at the elbow and also rotates at the shoulders, the legs bend at the knee and can rotate at the waist and the head also has freedom of movement. Its a huge relief to find that Armada Unicron is for flexible as the curse with most of the Armada line was that pretty much all larger Transformers were basically known as 'Brick' Transformers. This meant that the characters were more like statues rather than actual Transformers that you could pose or play with, one of the worst case figures for this was Armada Scavenger. Thankfully Unicron has avoided this awful curse that has plagued the Armada line and is totally flexible and able to do pretty much any pose you desire.

The chest section opens up much like in the cartoon show to reveal a 'chest missile launcher' the chest opens by attaching a Mini-Con to the back connection piece of Unicron's back. Once inserted into the connection peg the chest slowly opens on its own and the missile fires out. A few people who purchased Armada Unicron said that sometimes Unicron's chest missile would fire out on its own accord without the Mini-con ever being attached to the back or without Unicron ever being touched at all. This may however have just been the result of loose pins or wires when the figure was in the production line.

Unicron also had added extra features such as LED lights for his eyes and his clear fist. Press the button on top of Unicron's head and his eyes light up red, push his clear fist inwards slightly and his whole fist lights up red as well. There are also several option features such as the 'Wings' have the option to hold a large amount of Mini-Cons in either Planet or Robot mode. The wrists, shins and the stomach areas can open up to reveal small compartments that can hold other Mini-Cons as well. There are other connection points placed all over Unicron such as the shoulders, back, legs and other places as well.

Transform Unicron into Planet mode and that's were the real G1 feeling starts to sink in. The Planet mode looks fantastic and almost like his original G1 incarnation. The Planet has two huge claws/grippers/spikes striking out from the Planets center that lead directly to the jaws of the Planet. The surface of the Planet is a type of Crystal clear blue/grey and beneath that is the main body of Unicron, the body is hidden rather well by the surface however and doesn't really show the robot mode at all.

The feet make the lower bottom half the Unicron's Planet mode but they seem slightly out of place when compared to the front section of the Planet. The same can also be said about the back part of Unicron's Planet mode which isn't really of Planet shape but more robotic as it is mostly the waist area and arms folded into position. It would have been much better if the back section of Unicron had two Planet half much like what the front section has but still it looks pretty amazing.

Unicron also has his very own Mini-Con known as Dead-End. This character is based of the cartoon show and is a Sentry Drone. In the cartoon show however Unicron has hundreds of these Drones protecting him but obviously the toy is only going to come with one. Dead-End is a small ball/Micro Planet that transforms fairly easily and can attach to Unicron in several places either in Planet Mode or Robot Mode.

Transformation is a little difficult at first because obviously this is a big figure and your not sure what your doing. After a few goes you finally realize how to Transform Unicron correctly (this is if your NOT using the instructions) and it becomes apparent that its fairly simple to Transform the figure. Basically the whole body folds in half and then the Planets surface covers up the main body while the rest acts as the back half to the Planet.

Both Hasbro and Takara versions of Unicron come boxed in Robot Mode in a huge box. The front of the box is clear plastic showing of the mighty Unicron while the lower part has a drawing of Unicron shown in Planet mode. The back of the box has his Bio and also several other pictures of the character.

A serious Must-Own figure for every fan of the Transformers Universe. This is the legendary Chaos Bringer Unicron after all. A huge toy with tons of play value to it and it may have taken 15+ years to finally be released from first being shown in 'Transformers The Movie' but once you get your hands on this figure it almost makes the wait worth while.
