Megatron is the leader of the rebel
Predacons who left to Pre-Earth in
search of raw Energon, or at least
that's what Megatron wanted the
Maximals to think.
Beast Wars Megatron is a fantastic
toy and is very well designed and
has the ability to bend his knee and
elbow joints which makes him very
articulate. Beast Wars Megatron was
also an early designed figure that
means he has the 'Mutant Head'
option that other early Beast Wars
characters such as Optimus Primal
and Dinobot were given. The 'Mutant
Head' feature is basically a second
head that acts as armor for the
first head and in the cartoon show
these 'Mutant Heads' were supposed
to give the characters extra
abilities like scope vision and
extra weapon options, however this
was dropped during the cartoons
production but some of the early
toys were left with there 'Mutant
Heads' such as Optimus Primal and
others.
The right arm for Megatron has his
T-rex head act as one of Megatron's
hands, this can be used as a blaster
which can be filled with water or it
can just be used as a crunching
weapon. The left arm has the T-rex
tail acting as a stabbing weapon
that can be thrust forwards by the
switch on the elbow area. The T-rex
tail sadly cannot come off and
Megatron doesn't have a hand that we
have seen him use in the show.
The lower leg area also has two
launchers with circle shaped
missiles now attached to Megatron's
legs. These can sometimes get in the
way of the character and these were
never shown in the cartoon show so
they must be toy extras.
T-rex mode is a little difficult to
transform at first but after a few
attempts you get the hang of how to
change the character without to much
difficulty. The T-rex is rather big
compared to the rest of the Maximal
troops but since the figure is a
T-rex then the scale compared to the
rest of the other Predacons seems to
work rather well.
The mouth of the T-rex can open and
can use a snapping option or the
touch area can be filled with water
and used as a squirter against
Maximals. The leg missiles can also
have the option to be placed
outwards and fired and thankfully
the circle type missiles fire at a
fair range to.
The packaging for Beast Wars
Megatron followed the same design
package as the rest of the original
Beast Wars cast. Megatron came boxed
in Beast mode in a tall box and came
with his instructions but sadly
nothing else, however the Takara
version of Megatron did come with a
data card as well as his
instructions that were more detailed
than Hasbro's.
Any Beast Wars fan would love to
have Megatron in there collection as
he has a fantastic robot mode and a
big beast mode to match. One of the
best Megatron's made and he deserves
a place in Beast Wars and
Transformer fans collections.
