G1 is resurrected in the form of Classics/Henkei and with the return of the G1 Transformers comes the most feared and heated of all Decepticon leaders…..Megatron has returned and he has brought his Gun mode back with him!

A sat here wondering how to write this review without it coming across as bias and pure praise to Takara and not hate disappointment to Hasbro….then I figured just fuck it and tell the truth and tell people what needs to be said about this figure. When Hasbro first showed the uncolored images of Classics Megatron everyone was excited because we were getting a gun mode Megatron again….but then Hasbro instantly fucked everything up and ruined it all because they released Classics Megatron in the most ugly colors I have ever seen and there excuse was that they HAD to release him in those colors because he would look to realistic if he were G1 style colors and because of laws…yet many replica toy guns in America ARE colored black/grey like real guns and also have flashing lights on ect ect

Takara on the other hand saw how badly people took to Classics Megatron and knew they HAD to save this figure and I saving this figure they have show just how much they are better at doing Transformers rather than Hasbro. The first thing with Henkei Megatron is that Takara chose to say NO to the awful colors Hasbro did and instead released Henkei Megatron in his true G1 color design with a silver grey body and black sections with red and this single act alone has made this figure go from feeling like some crappy KO to an absolute Masterpiece.

Gun mode is pure love and shows just what the right colors can do to a figure because not only does this feel a little like when you held G1 Megatron in gun mode but it’s also got the same respect from you the owner. With the original G1 Megatron toy you felt like a god when you held Megatron in gun mode for the first time when he has all the accessories combined (stock, scope, silencer ) and when you hold Henkei Megatron in your hands in gun mode for the first time you get this Magical feeling you will NEVER get with the classics version of this toy, it feels as if in some strange way your reliving your childhood when you first held the original G1 Megatron toy. The act may have been what Hasbro were trying to achieve but they failed miserably while Takara on the other hand did an amazing job and some how captured the magic that was what these companies must have been aiming for to begin with.

The gun fits perfectly into the hands of your average woman or your average man (unless your seriously overweight and have fat hands/fingers) and all holds together perfectly and the biggest difference from this version over the Classics version is that bloody scope is finally fixed with the Henkei version. What is meant by this is that on the Classics version the scope has got a massive problem in that it tilts downwards so it’s always off angle and is never pointing directly ahead. The Henkei version however has fixed this problem and the scope rests perfectly on top of the gun mode and points straight ahead without any problems.

The handle also works on Henkei Megatron and slots in perfectly into the ports so that the handle actually stays solid and firm rather than being flimsy and bending in the wrong way like the Classics version. The colors also work amazing well on the gun mode and almost make you want to drool! Yes it IS that beautiful and yes it DOES feel that great when you hold it in your hands. The clear plastic on the front of the gun shows some of the insides of the Gun mode which if anything almost make it look as it you can see all the insides working of the gun mode rather than just bits of robots being hidden behind the shell of the gun mode.

Front area of gun mode finally has black sections on it so finally the gun mode actually looks like a gun rather than looking like some awful KO that falls to pieces within a few plays. The end of the gun barrel and the end of the scope are now both finally painted black and the silver colorings of the gun with the red paint streaks really add so much to this mode. It really is hard to explain in words just how great this is unless you have actually held G1 Megatron In your hands, Masterpiece Megatron + Accessores pack in your hands and finally Henkei Megatron In gun mode in your hands as well. Once you have done this and you hold Henkei Megatron in Gun mode in your hands you realize just what a fantastic job Takara actually did with this mould while Hasbro failed miserably.

Ok so having feel just how good gun mode would be you would expect robot mode to somehow fail and be absolutely awful but amazing no! yet again Takara do a fantastic job on the robot mode as well and make this feel like a new updated version of G1 Megatron and you don’t even care about the wings/gun shell on the back of Henkei Megatron because you end up not even noticing them in the end. The face actually looks like ‘old bucket head’ Megatron and the chest section has a beautifully colored Decepticon symbol in the middle while the rest of the chest is chrome and the other pieces are red/black and cream.

The arm cannon on Henkei Megatron rest’s under the arm like a rail gun but if you rotate the arm 180 degrees then you can have the arm cannon on top of arms like how G1 Megatron used to be but sadly the fist still seems to be pointing downwards and can not be rotated upwards without some serious heavy modding being done to the arm itself. The cannon seems to rest up or down on Henkei Megatron just right and can hold the weight of the cannon on the arm In most positions.

Henkei Megatron can rotate in all the right places as well with the ability to rotate at the waist, head, elbows, shoulders, knees and hips which gives this figure a massive amount of possibility as Henkei Megatron can be placed In almost any position thanks to his freedom of creativity when the figure was designed.

The legs have clip sections which can slide upwards when in robot mode and also downwards for when transforming. This represents the original G1 Megatron toy design and also tries to capture the look and feel of the originals just perfectly. The Scope on the cannon is admittedly crap when you look threw it yourself but somehow even manages to be slightly improved on the Classics version….yet you still cannot make anything out threw either of the Henkei or Classics scopes. The wings/gun shell pieces don’t bother you on this Henkei version and I think this is because of the fact Takara choose to color the wing/gun shell pieces the same color as the rest of the body but add that along with the clear transparent plastic on the back then it adds greatly to the illusion they are not actually there when they are. Hasbro failed on trying to do this because on their Classics version the Wing/Gun Shell is an awful color of green which can not be ignored….if anything it makes Classic Megatron look as if he brought his own curtains into battle with him and just popped his railings with them on behind him.

The only real downside I can see to this character is the lack of accessories because with G1 Megatron you got a silencer, stock and a sword for the robot mode and a mace with the Bookstyle reissue. It would have been great to have been given a sword for this figure in robot mode and even more amazing if Takara had released an Energon Axe with Convoy (Optimus Prime) and an Energon Mace with Megatron. Sadly this chance was missed and the two figures feel as if there both missing something in robot mode (for Convoy its mainly his Trailer) which is a huge shame as it would have been so great to have gotten some extra bits to this figure.

Henkei Megatron comes packaged in the Henkei Transformers packaging for the series 1 release which seems to have been replaced at the moment by Hasbro style packaging for the Classics line but with Henkei figures in the box (Examples of this are Onslaught and Sliverbolt) but he packaging for Henkei Megatron Is a beautiful white design with a clear window on the front which shows the figure in robot mode and the back has images of robot and gun mode. Inside is the figure along with a mini Henkei Transformers comic which shows Megatron with others such as Astrotrain and Starscream and Soundwave.

A serious MUST for all Megatron fans and any serious fans of the Henkei and Classics line. Most Henkei figures are not that much different from the Classics releases such as Sideswipe for example but in some cases there is a huge difference such as Henkei Powerglide and Henkei Megatron. Once you get Henkei Megatron and compare him to the Classics version of the mould then you will probably never touch the Classics version again as it just looks pathetic next to the Henkei release of this fantastic figure. Henkei Megatron is one you CANT miss out on.
