Beast Wars 2 and Neo
were added series
done by Takara and
were events that
happened back on
Cybertron during the
battle between
Optimus Primal and
Megatron trapped in
the past on
Pre-Earth. The
series started
during the same
events of Beast Wars
and ended when
Megatron came back
to Cybertron before
the Maximals and
managed to take
control of the
planet. Now Beast
Wars 2 had some of
the best remolds
ever in the form of
the Cyber-Beasts.
The four were
Hellscream,
DirgeGun, MaxB and
Thrustol.
This is basically
Beast Wars 2
Hellscream but
re-released in the
Universe line with a
Decepticon logo on
his chest and with a
slight ball added on
the end of the shark
razor on the front
of beast mode. The
two differences to
the figure do make a
slight difference
because with the
Takara version there
is a sharp edge to
the razor sharks
point but on the
Hasbro version they
have added a slight
bubble because of
their over safety
issues. The
Decepticon logo just
makes it seem very
lazy because the
whole point of
Universe figures is
that they are meant
to be repaints of
existing figures
previously/already
available.
Overbite is
basically just Beast
Wars 2 Hellscream
with a Decepticon
logo on the chest,
now this is
fantastic of Hasbro
to do because it
means people can get
a hold of Hellscream
(Overbite) but the
thing that really is
a kick in the
bollocks is that
considering their
giving us Hellscream
you would expect
MaxB, DirgeGun and
Thrustol to follow
suit and for us to
be given the entire
Cyber-Beast foursome
by Hasbro….sadly
not! It seems were
getting Hellscream
and that’s pretty
much it sadly. You
may think it may not
matter that much but
if you’re a
collector of the
Universe line you
kinda notice that
Hellscream on his
own doesn’t really
match up with all
the other figures in
the Universe line…he
just looks out of
place.
The robot mode is a
mix of love and
hate, on the one
hand you can love
this figure because
Overbite supports a
huge arsed massive
arm cannon with
shark missiles and
spikes pointing out
of it. The part you
hate about the robot
mode is that the
feet are seriously
way to small because
of the rest of the
body the legs just
cannot seem to
support the body
very well and on
most times it ends
up falling over. The
legs just needed to
be slightly bigger
or have better
support for the rest
of the body and the
robot mode would
have been fantastic.
The face for
Overbite looks great
and real evil,
originally in the
Beast Wars 2 Cartoon
the figure was
called Starscream (A
G2 repaint done in
Black with BB) but
was thrown into a
lava pit by
Gigastorm and who
mutated into
Hellscream. So the
face looks real
twisted and evil and
suits the figure
perfectly. There are
two shark missiles
hidden in the back
area of the figure
and also the tip of
the cyber shark area
can come off and be
used as a type of
short sword while
the rest of the
shark face area can
be used as a type of
shield while the
main cannon gets a
chance to reload.
The beast mode looks
…well obviously like
a shark but with
more robotic parts
added to it. I guess
the best way to
explain this is to
think of a type of
android shark and
that’s the best way
to really describe
how Overbite looks
in beast mode. The
added extra robotic
parts to the
standard normal
shark look amazing
and shows why the
Cyber-Beasts sold so
well in Japan and
China but
considering these
were some of the
best sellers of the
Beast Wars 2 line it
really is
unexplained by
Hasbro haven’t
released the rest of
the Cyber-Beasts in
the Universe line
because fans have
said that they do
want them, it just
seems wrong for
Hasbro to release
such crap as
repainting Cybertron
Evac TWICE (Springer
AND Blades) yet they
don’t release
figures fans
seriously want in
the line.
The packaging for
Overbite looks a
little like Universe
Nemesis Prime’s or
Ruinations. The box
is large but thin
and the front has
cartoon pictures of
the figure. The
downside is that you
can’t get Overbite
on his own as he
comes with Repugnus
which isn’t really a
very good toy at
all, if anything it
just feels like he
was thrown in at the
last minute as a
cheap extra that
fans wont really
want.
A fantastic edition
to the Universe and
a great chance for
fans to get there
hands on Hellscream
but for a Universe
figure that’s meant
to be a repaint it
seems very lazy,
then again it was
more likely this was
released for fans to
get there hands on
Hellscream which is
why he wasn’t
repainted
thankfully. A great
figure and shows
that Takara are
fantastic when
making there own
moulds and the
retooling of the
design is amazing.
All we can do is
hope that some time
in the future Hasbro
pulls their fingers
out of there arses
and chooses to
release the rest of
the Cyber-beasts
that everybody
wants.
